LET’S TALK CORPORATE
Television Deals
http://aubankaitis.wordpress.com/
FIFA awarded a record $US 425m television rights to ABC and ESPN networks (English), also Spain’s Univision (Spanish commentary). This is for the period 2007/14, inclusive for all male & female competitions.
SAFA-SABC
This week the South African Football Association and the public broadcaster had a mutual agreement. However not much has been divulged on the deal until further notice. At this point it can only be confirmed that all Bafana Bafana home games will be televised on SABC through the broadcaster’s spokesman Kaizer Kganyago could not deliberate as to whether the games would be live or delayed. The agreement is still yet to be presented to the parties boards.
Premier Soccer League-Supersport
In 2007 the Digital Satellite Television (DStv) channel signed a R1.6 Billion deal. Come 2011/12 season a R2 Billion deal was concluded with the local league and some of the benefits are:
PSL Clubs previously received grants of R 400 000 per month. Since the deal, they now receive One Million Rand per month plus a further two million rand ex-gratia payment.
12 of the 16 PSL clubs now have main sponsors. Previously less than half of the clubs enjoyed sponsorship.
Soon all 16 PSL clubs will have a website that is on the same portal as the PSL website
First Division clubs were receiving R50 000 per month and now receive R150 000 per month plus a further ex gratia payment of R 300 000.

It’s a seventh year running now since the lager brand has been sponsors of the UEFA Champions League. Heineken advertisements have been akin to the pleasure of heaven check below for my personal favourite!!!. Hans Erik Tuijt (Global Manager Heineken Activation) reiterated “Each UEFA Champions League season, Heineken strives to ignite fans conversations”. Talk about reinforcing a brand association, it was a smart PR initiative for the Amsterdam based company to tour the UEFA trophy in Africa and the rest of the world. http://www.heinekeninternational.com/070312_heineken+takes+uefa+champions+league.aspx

ANOTHER EPISODE OF FOOTBALL’s BAD BOYS
Into the gallery and current, starring...
George Best

THE ORIGINAL BAD BOY: Best in his heydays.
http://www.georgebest.com/

He is literally best remembered in Manchester, at Old Trafford where his career reached a climax after being scouted at 16. However his career lasted until the age of 26- very short considering longest campaigners e.g. Oliver Kahn, Ryan Giggs etc. This was all due to his love for the bottle and the lavish lifestyle, his good looks with the Beatles haircut made him an instant hit with the ladies too.
His heavy drinking through the years caught him off-side at old age; he was in and out of hospital for severe liver damage. In ’02 he had a liver transplant, unfortunately it only carried ‘till ’05 when he finally succumbed.
He raised funds for the liver research and today his family got a foundation running to continue his legacy. http://www.georgebest.com/foundation.
Wayne Rooney
FATHER & SON: Rooney with son Kai
Guardian.co.uk
Alan Shearer was good, but Rooney is special. He’s not just a prolific goal machine, but his defensive ability is no different from that of the stone wall of Berlin, and he doesn’t look to crumble any soon. Though his temperament has been a focal point:
In ’06 World Cup he stepped on Portugal’s Carvalho’s private parts.
He had a go at our local referee Jeff Selogilwe at a practise match in Rustenburg.
A €500/hr escort Jenny Thompson claimed to have slept with Rooney seven times when the stars wife was pregnant.
Such mishaps are not only a blow to a player as a brand, but can be suicidal to the image of the team under. Scandals as this could cause a huge PR crisis and hefty financially there-of.

THE SOPRANOS OF ITALIAN FOOTBALL
Genaro “The bull dog” Gattuso
He plays with his mind, body and soul-probably he takes it a bit further; 9/10 he gets into fights either officials & the opposite camp players. He has been a loyal servant of the “Nastro Azzuri”, without him Italy would be like mozzarella without cheese.
Despite being recently diagnosed with double vision he still insists on playing.
-Funny when it happened he claimed to have seen teammate Zlatan “TWICE” aha-ha that’s Gattuso for you!!!.
He’s a rare breed-he covers ground of 10-13km/match.

Antonio Cassano

JUBLIANT: Cassano ready to get jiggy
with it, only he knows with who.

Another remarkable player in his own right. Now 29, when he appeared on the scene at 17 was uncontrollable. He boasts about to have slept with 600-700 women, yeah right actually think he’s just trying to shadow Garrincha. He had numerous fall outs with almost every coach-apparently Marcello Lippi didn’t include him in the last edition of the World Cup because he beat up Lippi’s son at a night club. He also stole a motor cycle in his village.

Mario_______________
This one pains my heart, at first he chose Italy over Ghana. Now he publicly discredits his biological parents, wonder how he sleeps at night. The less said about his week in, week out blunders. Please follow this link and be the judge. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1300427/Mario-Balotellis-double-life-The-bitter-family-feud-haunts-29m-Manchester-City-target.html.

Marco Matterazi

He’s a dirty player on the field. However he’s an important member at club and international setups. Though an incident where he allegedly called Zidane’s mother a “terrorist” will always cloud his accomplishments.
Statue in NYC depicting
the infamous incident between
the Frenchman & Italian.

SAY WHAT?: Zidane headbutting Matterazi at the '06 World Cup.

footballitaliano.co.uk
He cried like a baby when Coach Jose Mourinho left Inter Milan.

Prodigal sons of South African football: Jabu Pule (Mahlangu), Tso Vilakazi, Patrick Mbuthu, Naughty Mokoena, Scara Ngobese, Sipho Nunens, Junior Khanye

THE DUTCH INVASION...

A myriad of the oranj'e fans/netherlands.worldcupblog.org

Rinus Michels

The late Dutch mentor is regarded as the man who crafted what is known as “Total Football”- the philosophy advocated for players not to be at stagnant positions, interchange in the field as necessary and always be weary of what’s happening around them. This system of play was marvelled around all spheres especially in the editions of FIFA World Cups of ’74 & ’78. The magnificent Netherlands crop of the time had the likes of Johann Cruyff, Johan Neeskens, and Ruud Krol in their line up.

Johann Cruyff

Michels was the inventor and captain of the ship Cruyff pioneered the system to perfection. An Englishman, Sir Trevor Booking describes Cruyff and co. best after one night the Dutch hypnotised the English at the Wembley spectacle. “We all knew Cruyff’s strengths but we couldn’t stop him. He was the ultimate two-footed player with devastating acceleration and with the ability to go past anyone. They were equivalent of the modern Spain team http://www.totalbarca.com/2010/news/busquets-%E2%80%9Cdutch-influence-improved-spanish-football%E2%80%9D/,everyone was trying to understand the Dutch philosophy of possession and rotating positions. They were ahead of their time http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2107856/England-v-Holland-Remember-1977-Total-Football-conquered-Wembley.html.

DUTCH MENTORS IN SOUTH AFRICA
Ruud Krol- He is one of the Dutch coaches to have graced our league, specifically with Orlando Pirates. Three seasons at the helm he won a treble last season, the league included.

Foppe De Haan- He had a spell with Ajax Cape Town and changed his relatively young team for the better. The side no longer played a kick and rush game but instantly played with a purpose. ‘The Urban Warriors’ this season are coached by another Dutchman in Maarten Stekelenburg who holistically hasn’t really had a gold touch on the players like his predecessor.

Johann Neeskens- A Dutch midfield great of the 70’s himself is man in charge at Mamelodi Sundowns, and his team has for the greater part of the season been lying on first position. Patrice Motsepe’s (owner) ‘Brazilians’ have been super this season!!! and can bet my bottom cent end of this season they will be crowned champs. The pundits are praising Neeskens for complementing the already existing ‘piano and shoeshine ‘style (characteristic of passing the ball on the ground) with the Dutch approach.

Total Football like a good planned public relations campaign when put into effect correctly, can be of fruition.
