THE DUTCH INVASION...

A myriad of the oranj'e fans/netherlands.worldcupblog.org

Rinus Michels

The late Dutch mentor is regarded as the man who crafted what is known as “Total Football”- the philosophy advocated for players not to be at stagnant positions, interchange in the field as necessary and always be weary of what’s happening around them. This system of play was marvelled around all spheres especially in the editions of FIFA World Cups of ’74 & ’78. The magnificent Netherlands crop of the time had the likes of Johann Cruyff, Johan Neeskens, and Ruud Krol in their line up.

Johann Cruyff

Michels was the inventor and captain of the ship Cruyff pioneered the system to perfection. An Englishman, Sir Trevor Booking describes Cruyff and co. best after one night the Dutch hypnotised the English at the Wembley spectacle. “We all knew Cruyff’s strengths but we couldn’t stop him. He was the ultimate two-footed player with devastating acceleration and with the ability to go past anyone. They were equivalent of the modern Spain team http://www.totalbarca.com/2010/news/busquets-%E2%80%9Cdutch-influence-improved-spanish-football%E2%80%9D/,everyone was trying to understand the Dutch philosophy of possession and rotating positions. They were ahead of their time http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2107856/England-v-Holland-Remember-1977-Total-Football-conquered-Wembley.html.

NB:IF YOU CAN'T VIEW THE ABOVE VIDEO INSERT IT SIMPLY MEANS YOUR SYSTEM IS NOT JAVA INSTALLED.

DUTCH MENTORS IN SOUTH AFRICA
Ruud Krol- He is one of the Dutch coaches to have graced our league, specifically with Orlando Pirates. Three seasons at the helm he won a treble last season, the league included.

Foppe De Haan- He had a spell with Ajax Cape Town and changed his relatively young team for the better. The side no longer played a kick and rush game but instantly played with a purpose. ‘The Urban Warriors’ this season are coached by another Dutchman in Maarten Stekelenburg who holistically hasn’t really had a gold touch on the players like his predecessor.

Johann Neeskens- A Dutch midfield great of the 70’s himself is man in charge at Mamelodi Sundowns, and his team has for the greater part of the season been lying on first position. Patrice Motsepe’s (owner) ‘Brazilians’ have been super this season!!! and can bet my bottom cent end of this season they will be crowned champs. The pundits are praising Neeskens for complementing the already existing ‘piano and shoeshine ‘style (characteristic of passing the ball on the ground) with the Dutch approach.

Total Football like a good planned public relations campaign when put into effect correctly, can be of fruition.

It is just unfortunate that most people do not acknowledge Dutch football and its legends. Many are only aware of Spanish and English football

Looks like dutch poeple knows more about soccer.I believe that it is true because even most dutch soccer players are very good. For them coaching may not be hard since they know more about football

Sure thing Refi, for an example Arsenal in England have acknowledged their past time stars in Herbert Chapman, Tony Adams and Thierry Henry. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2072146/Arsenal-statues-unveiled-Thierry-Henry-tears.html
