Teko Modise came to the premiership league scene in 06/07 season joining a Pretoria based side Super-Sport United. He caught the eye of Pitso Mosimane (currently Bafana coach) from the National First Division (NFD) side City Pillars. Teko was previously with the now defunct Ria Stars, also in NFD-then Mvela League. Teko made his mark when he joined top of the historic side: Orlando Pirates. This is where he made a name for himself and was worshipped by many parallel to how the legendary Maradona was glorified at Boca Juniors.
In ‘08/’09 season he was awarded player of the season for his work ethic, inch perfect passes, his ability to shoot and score, effortlessly go past his opponents and adapt from the left to the right wing. Holistically Ruud Krol planned his tactics around him. With all these, all sorts of endorsements came begging for his signature; Samsung mobile, Nike, McDonalds etc. Teko was touted as the thee player to help Bafana to glory ahead of the ’09 Confed. Cup but when the time came he didn’t really step up. Post this all sorts of critic came Teko’s way. Also in the 2010 FIFA World Cup his performance was below average, and the source was believed to be the money from the endorsements.
Teko fell out of favour with Ruud Krol, was accused of sowing divisions within the club and in short he went from hero to zero. This is the kind of torture he had to deal with (http://www.tvsa.co.za/sobza/article15706.asp).

COGENT FACTORS THAT COULD HAVE LED TO TEKO’s DOWN SPIRAL

A failed marriage and having to deal with the divorce.

The revelation of having to disclose his mom’s AIDS related disease status in public.

He had to adjust to raising his daughter on his own after the divorce.
With all the flack, few like Allegro still believed in him and I must admit I was overwhelmed by this column (http://orgellaonline.com/2012/03/22/what-i-learned-from-teko-modise-the-trials-before-the-comeback/?cbg_tz=480).
I have extracted a bit from it just in case...
Set your priorities straight, admit your faults, regret and move on(don’t hold on), work hard FOR YOURSELF, prove nothing to no one but yourself, be the best you can be, when life knocks you down, get yourself up and try again, don’t let people who don’t matter determine who you become and frame your own future!

TOKYO ‘SHIFTS’ TO A NEW RESPONSIBILITY IN ZURICH
Late last year many were taken aback by FIFA boss opinion that racism does not exist in football. Sepp Blatter in his words said “racism in football can be solved with a handshake at the end match”. Understandably so many were appalled by Blatter’s sentiments in an Al-Jazeera TV interview, considering that there instances to date whereby black soccer players are thrown bananas at to depict them as monkeys.
Blatter realising the magnitude of his mishap, did make an apology and made an assurance on FIFA stances on the racism issue. However he was still criticised in the manner which he carried the apology. Bernays (1952) suggested that the three main elements of public relations consists of informing the people, persuading them and most importantly integrating people with people at large e.g. should a tennis association wish to persuade young adults to partake in tennis, they can acquire services of figures like Serena Williams/Pete Sampras to be their spokespeople since such people can be better associated with. Blatter was somehow accused of the same tactic (negation); in his apology he posted a picture of him and South Africa’s Tokyo Sexwale embracing. However strongly disagree with those who that tried so hard to unseat ‘Mr. President’ in particular the British to the top order whom themselves are stalling on the John Terry race issue. I am unshaken to say this is a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

Leadership attributes
Tokyo hosted the reality show South African version./www.tvsa.co.za
Mosima Gabriel (Tokyo) Sexwale, a Human Settlements Minister in Jacob Zuma’s cabinet was also this year delegated into FIFA Media Committee. The man Tokyo-a nickname he got from his youth for the love he had for karate http://www.sahistory.org.za/people/mosima-gabriel-tokyo-sexwale has previously been actively involved with FIFA’s anti-racism campaigns. Former president Nelson Mandela made him premier (1994-1998) of South Africa’s economic capital: Gauteng province. Tokyo is also an accomplished business man in the mining sector, in 1999 when he quit politics he started Mvelaphanda Resources (Mvela). In 2003 Mvela recorded a staggering US $224-million profit.http://www.blackentrepreneurprofile.com/profile-full/article/tokyo-mosima-gabriel-sexwale/.
Tokyo is also characterised by his unbelievable charisma-probably that should explain how he got to marry a white woman (Judy Moon).
Involvement with soccer
For many years Tokyo’s company Mvelaphanda Holdings (Pty) Limited domestically sponsored the second division soccer league.
A South African also serving on a committee level (Marketing & TV) in FIFA, is Octagon’s Managing Director: Qondisa Ngwenya. http://www.fifa.com/aboutfifa/organisation/bodies/standingcommittees/committee=1882041.html.

RONALDO-MESSI, THE DAVID & GOLIATH AFFAIR

footballstreaker.blogspot.com
If you were to ask me who the better between the duo is, my noble answer would be ‘They are on par in more ways than one, but Cristiano Ronaldo slightly edges the man who the media has named a “genius”, Lionel Messi. This is a mere case of cultivation theory (states that the more a person is exposed to a message provided by the media, the more likely that person is to believe the message is real/true). It’s the same as asking one from an appeal point of view between the 2011/2012 Hyundai models: sonata & elentra which is the cutest? - for me they are so alike in that perspective & it’s difficult to say but...
Such passiveness is a result of the media constantly eating from Messi’s feet in the expense of the equally incredible Ronaldo A.K.A CR7-a number which has synonymously been equated with greatness at his former club Manchester United. Before him the jersey number was worn by the legends in George Best, Eric Cantona & David Beckham. Ironically the legacy of the lucky-#7 continued into his Portugal national colours when he graduated from number seventeen after the retirement of Luỉs Figo.
The media didn’t make a hype in Mario Gomez, who netted four against FC Basel in a 7-0 win of the Champions League (UEFA) last 16. The Bayern Munich man was just a goal shy to equalling the much talked about Messi record of five goals per match in another UEFA encounter a fortnight ago. (2012, 15 March). Mario Gomez greedy for goals. The New Age, pg. 13.

Many are astonished by Messi’s ability to perplex defenders and goalies more than anyone else, hence his other nickname “the magician”. He also wins the masses hearts by his reserved personality. http://thecitizen.co.tz/editorial-analysis/47-columnists/20674-the-genius-and-humility-of-lionel-andres-messi.html. However this should be no excuse to downplay the ability of those who came before him & the now generation eg. Rivaldo, Maradona, Pele, Ronaldo (Braz.), Weah, Henry (14), Zidane, Milla, Rooney, Van Persie etc.
Key aspects where Ronaldo gets the upper hand over Messi
shooting ability- CR7 launches deadly shots from far out the eighteen area.
tactical ability- “Ronaldo can play as a winger in either side, as a centre   forward and even as an offensive midfielder in the middle”.
technique- CR7 can utilize both of his feet to good effect.
crossing- CR7 perfects inch accurate square passes, long & short.
dead ball situations- CR7 shoots a stationery ball with vigour to destabilise any keeper.
aerial ability- he is deadly (attack) and instrumental (defending) in the air.
acceleration- ronaldo cruises at an amazing speed especially on the flanks.

Corporate Social Responsibility - FIFA

Publics today are paying attention to the organizations gesture effort of giving back. It has become a worldwide phenomenon and businesses are becoming sensitive to the environment within which they operate. A big player in audit and consulting-KPMG in 2008 conducted a survey and in its findings 8/10 of more than two thousand companies have released reports of their Corporate Social Investment (CSI) engagements, and what is distinctive is that in 2005 only 50% went this route. http://www.kpmg.com/global/en/issuesandinsights/articlespublications/pages/sustainability-corporate-responsibility-reporting-2008.aspx.
CSI can be described as the publics opinion about the social and environment impact of an organization’s business operations and its contribution to the well-being of its communities be it locally or globally. Therefore Public Relations (PR) comes in not just to champion safe-guarding a client’s reputation but develops communication channels between the company and its stakeholders, and fulfilling one of its duties to the society at large. However one must pay cognisance to that even though PR has to be transparent and ethical, there could be limitations on the information it makes public. Communications technology is rapidly growing and organizations can take advantage of social media tools to engage with their audiences, in such a fashion PR creates a climate of free exchange of opinions.
The implementation of CSI in the custodian of soccer; Fẻderation Internationale de Football Association is no exception. Fifa’s Head of Social Corporate Responsibility (CSR), Frederico Addiechi and his team implement programmes:
Anti-racism campaign
Racism started out small with the booing of players of African descent and more recently manifested into the making of monkey chants. FIFA has initiated a number of projects to curb such a societal problem.

2010 FIFA World Cup Legacy Trust
Post the 2010 World Cup, FIFA made a donation of an amount USD 100-million which the 80-million of it was or is due to be spent on football development, education, health and humanitarian activities in South Africa. The 20-million was already utilised in the construction of the new South African Football Association house in Nasrec, Soweto. Ernst & Young is tasked with the monitoring of the trust. FIFA has also built twenty beacon of hope football centres around Africa, which focus on public health and improve education for young people in the continent. One of them is built in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. http://www.capetown.gov.za/en/Pages/FootballforHopeCentrelaunchedinKhayelitsha.aspx.

Education
FIFA initiated “1GOAL-Education for All”, which aims to make education a reality especially in an impoverished African continent.

Environmental aspect
The FIFA headquarters in Zurich are a true testament of the importance of environmental conservation; the green life around the building is left undisturbed, also the mini-field along the eye candy craftsmanship home is of artificial grass, the building itself is of a zero emission nature (no fossil fuels and carbon dioxide emissions) and this is achieved by energy efficient technologies that are operated by a pump which interplays heat and cool air within a system. www.fifa.com/mm/document/affederation/.../01/28/72/.../hof-ee.pdf.
FIFA against poverty
With the objective of raising funds for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), FIFA organises special matches often of celebrities tussling it against one another, for example in a fifth annual match against poverty saw former stalwarts: Zidane and Ronaldo (Brazil) captained their sides with the likes of Michael Schumacher in the line-up.
