Teko Modise came to the premiership league scene in 06/07 season joining a Pretoria based side Super-Sport United. He caught the eye of Pitso Mosimane (currently Bafana coach) from the National First Division (NFD) side City Pillars. Teko was previously with the now defunct Ria Stars, also in NFD-then Mvela League. Teko made his mark when he joined top of the historic side: Orlando Pirates. This is where he made a name for himself and was worshipped by many parallel to how the legendary Maradona was glorified at Boca Juniors.
In ‘08/’09 season he was awarded player of the season for his work ethic, inch perfect passes, his ability to shoot and score, effortlessly go past his opponents and adapt from the left to the right wing. Holistically Ruud Krol planned his tactics around him. With all these, all sorts of endorsements came begging for his signature; Samsung mobile, Nike, McDonalds etc. Teko was touted as the thee player to help Bafana to glory ahead of the ’09 Confed. Cup but when the time came he didn’t really step up. Post this all sorts of critic came Teko’s way. Also in the 2010 FIFA World Cup his performance was below average, and the source was believed to be the money from the endorsements.
Teko fell out of favour with Ruud Krol, was accused of sowing divisions within the club and in short he went from hero to zero. This is the kind of torture he had to deal with (http://www.tvsa.co.za/sobza/article15706.asp).

COGENT FACTORS THAT COULD HAVE LED TO TEKO’s DOWN SPIRAL

A failed marriage and having to deal with the divorce.

The revelation of having to disclose his mom’s AIDS related disease status in public.

He had to adjust to raising his daughter on his own after the divorce.
With all the flack, few like Allegro still believed in him and I must admit I was overwhelmed by this column (http://orgellaonline.com/2012/03/22/what-i-learned-from-teko-modise-the-trials-before-the-comeback/?cbg_tz=480).
I have extracted a bit from it just in case...
Set your priorities straight, admit your faults, regret and move on(don’t hold on), work hard FOR YOURSELF, prove nothing to no one but yourself, be the best you can be, when life knocks you down, get yourself up and try again, don’t let people who don’t matter determine who you become and frame your own future!
